Just got the news that I will be moving to the Nashville area first of June. So naturally comes the freak out of where to live, how safe is the area, and what the commute will look like.
A little about the move......
We are looking to rent a house/condo/townhome for under $1200 that puts us approximately equidistant from 840 (my job-Amazon) and downtown Nashville (her job). Thus far it seems like Hermitage or 37214 zip area, La Vergne, and Smyrna are all possibilities matching our criteria. In particular we have seen several places on Lincoya Bay Dr that seem nice.

Can anyone tell us about these areas, and other areas that match our criteria, with respect to day to day life and crime rates.

The commute in and out of downtown on 24 (LaVergne and Smyrna) is generally brutal during peak hours. I'm biased because I live in the Hermitage/Donelson area but it's a nice area to live, especially if you're trying to find an optimal commute for the both of you. I wouldn't rule out Mt Juliet either since you're going to Amazon, if you prefer a little bit of a more suburban feel, without the hellish commute of LaVergne and Smyrna coming out of Rutherford County.

Agreed with Drake. I'd look at Hermitage/Donelson/Mt. Juliet over Lavergne and Smyrna personally.

I was watching the traffic on tv this morning at around 7:45 or so. It was traveling at 21 mph from just inside Smyrna to the 24/40 merger. I would avoid 24 if at all possible and live out 40.
