The City of Brentwood is opening a 300+-acre park on WIlson Pike just north of the Franklin city limits, and they are building a bridge over the train tracks there so it will eliminate THAT crossing.

I know the Inglehame neigbors will be glad of that.

Question Train Noise Wilson Pike

We were also wondering about the train noise from Wilson Pike. Did you find out where the crossings are located?

I saw online that the new Ravenwood park would eliminate the at-grade driveway railroad crossing. Was this what your neighbor was referring to? If so, the site I was reading said that the phase for this work was complete?

Is the train still using the old crossing?

The at-grade crossing at Smith Park was eliminated with the park's opening a couple of weeks ago, but the OP lives a couple miles south of there, past McEwen drive down Clovercroft. There are several more at-grade crossings in his area, including driveways.

Thanks! This makes sense why we still hear the train horn from Wilson Pike.

In many states, the railroad is required by law to have engine crews sound their air hons when approaching a highway crossing at grade. You probably have already noticed a pattern -- two blasts of about a half-second, one short, and then a longer one until the crossing is passed. Sometimes the law allows a varince, such as sounding only for the first crossing when two are close together, but with liability concerns on everyone's mind, i can't inagine waiving the requiremnt completely.

I've been a railroad buff all my life, and worked for them (too briefly) on a number of occsions, and all three of the lcations I've lived in in recent years have been a block or less away from a railroad. My guess is that you'll get at least partiallyused to it after a time.

The probelem might be somewhat psycho-somatic. WhenI was a kid, my parents has a Westminster chime clock, and I would sometimes lie awake, trying to sleep, but knowing tha the darned thing would sound again within a quarter hour. The process semmed to feed upon itself.
