And then you have the biggest two suburban counties with a trio of cities:

Franklin/Brentwood/Spring Hill: +12,900
Murfreesboro/Smyrna/La Vergne: +12,864

Nashville-Davidson continues to make up a larger share of the a MSA growth than its population. It accounted for 43% of the MSA's growth while only making up 37% of the MSA's total population.

Every time they publish estimates it should give the region a renewed sense of urgency to address transportation. I don't know if we'll ever really catch up, but we have to do something. Just last night, Brentwood voted to not contribute to the RTAs Express bus line. Things like that cannot happen if the region is going to develop a viable alternative to driving your car in 20mph traffic on the interstate.

The Brentwood city commission has always been very conservative with tax dollars. As I understand it, the commission has asked the RTA every year for specific data on where the riders who get on the commuter bus at that stop live. If they're driving through Brentwood from southern Davidson or Rutherford to get to that stop, that does not help get cars off the roads in Brentwood.

Yes, it may get cars off I-65, but why should Brentwood taxpayers fund transit on a federal highway?

The other concern of the commission as it was explained to me is that there is no end to the asking. The $23K this year would double to $57K next year. For 8 riders at that stop??? Not a good deal.

Transit should be self-supporting. Local governments have a hard enough time providing services to their own citizens. They cannot constantly be expected to pay for regional issues too.

The problem with public transportation in Middle TN is that every county's needs are different, and no one can decide on one solution for everyone to support.
