There was a lot of buzz when Food Network's celebrity chef Maneet Chauhan decided to open her first restaurant in Nashville, not New York. She just wrote in the Huffington Post how she has fallen in love with Music City and now refers to herself as a "Nash-Yorker" even though when her partners originally suggested that she look at Nashville for her first restaurant, she didn't even know where Nashville was.

From her article:

I packed an overnight bag and hopped on a plane. The new, unchartered territory that greeted this nearly jaded New Yorker upon landing is something that has changed my entire life. I have been introduced to a city that completely embodies the concept of southern hospitality. From the bustling honky tonks that sprinkle the streets of downtown to those warm "y'all" greetings -- and let's not forget the highly addictive hot chicken -- I fell head over heals like a smitten schoolgirl. I could easily pen an entire novel on why I love this city, and believe me I am a lifelong advocate of the Big Apple, yet somehow Nashville weaved its magic around me. It completely drew me in. My partners are so proud of their city, it only took one short trip for me to get hooked; since then, I have fallen in love over and over again for the Music City.

The entire article:

Sounds like she is still firmly in the infatuation stage.

I hope she has much success here. My advice to Maneet as a first-time restaurateur: Please train your staff to be professional servers. A restaurant can have the best food in the world, but a poor server can ruin the experience. I'm talking to you, Husk.

(I'm still trying to figure out how you can spend "hours" walking around 12 South. I must be doing it wrong.)

Good point. I'm willing to overlook bad service once but if it happens twice, I'm done. It probably means there is a poor service culture at that restaurant and/or someone doesn't know how to train staff properly. Anyone can have an off night. But more than one...when you're paying circa $100 for a meal for 2...no real excuse.

Ha. I missed that, but yeah, good point. Maybe the writer is on crutches? Or searching for mass transit?

Now, I WILL admit to spending hours on the porch at 12 South Taproom.

The current Vogue with front cover of Reese Witherspoon has a story on her, pretty much based in Nashville and she is modelling at various Nashville sites like Cheekwood and Station Inn. A very tasteful take on the city, mentioning that she has a home there.
