I may have an opportunity to move to Robertson County (Springfield), TN. What can you tell me about the lifestyle and the people there? As an African-American woman, I want to know what to expect when I get there.

I have family that has lived in Greenbriar (just to the south of Springfield) for many decades. It is a rural county. Springfield is the county seat and has the best retail and entertainment options in the county, but it is still a relatively "sleepy" small town compared to other neighboring areas. Here is City-Data's statistical analysis of the city that may answer many of your questions.

While I've never personally lived there, my gut reaction based on my family connection is that Springfield is a middle class town with large amounts of rural areas and rural folks nearby. I am not sure of the race relations in Springfield, but also am not aware of any overt concerns either.

Are you moving there for a job located in Springfield or using it as a home for a job elsewhere? Do you have kids and is the school system important?

Robertson County has not had the best relationship with the NAACP and was forced to do some massive school rezoning this school year after the NAACP and then the US Department of Justice sued the county last year to "desegregate" its schools.

As can be expected, this move was not very popular with many in Robertson County.

Otherwise, Robertson County as a whole is 7.8% AA while Springfield itself is 23.7% AA. A buddy of mine lives in rural Robertson County and enjoys it. As DonCorleone said, I've not heard of any racial problems around there although the NAACP/DoJ desegregation lawsuit did raise some eyebrows.
