Hello All,
I'm a 44-year old, active single woman, who is also a university adjunct and marketing consultant in beauty & media/entertainment industries. I'm a native Memphian, who has lived in NYC for 18 years, and wants a better quality of life. I believe Nashville may be a better fit, in terms of open mindedness and lifestyle and would like to know if anyone else has made the move from NYC to Nashville and how this transition has been. Also, since I am both coming from a very dense area and also have not had a car in almost 20 years, I am looking for neighborhood recommendations that are eclectic and open minded and that don't require LONG commutes to the city's center. Thank you very much in advance to all who can provide any insights. For what it is worth, I have no children and am African American.

East Nashville, without a doubt.

East Nashville, Germantown, the Gulch, 12South, Midtown, Sylan Park

Be aware that the closer you get to Vanderbilt and Belmont the younger your neighbors will skew.

I moved from NYC to Nashville. My experience was ... mixed. I liked that it was cheap and pretty and laidback. I loved how every week, it seemed, there was something new and exciting going on: great music scene, tons of new restaurants and retail stores opening. I didn’t like the politics or the lack of diversity. Not being Christian was weird.

I was not a Tennessee native though and the culture shock was ultimately too much. So we don’t live there anymore.

I moved from NYC to Nashville close to 4 years ago. I really love living here. Yes, it was an adjustment at first, but change always is. Nashville is not a "walkable" city, like NYC, but there are pockets that are walkable, like 12 South, Germantown, East Nashville, Sylvan Park. You will need a car as it doesn't have the public transportation like up north.
