You may also want to consider areas just outside of Belle Meade, like Hillwood, Green Hills, or my personal favorite Whitland/Woodlawn. There would be less restrictions if you wanted to add to your property, such as a pool.

We're not looking to add a pool - but hoping for a house with a pool already there (at least i am - DH doesn't care). But it's not a deal breaker.

Thanks for also suggesting other neighbourhoods to consider.

The other areas recommended are great areas too. One nice thing about being inside Belle Meade proper is taxes (at least for now) are actually lower than if you are in the Nashville Urban District (which green hills, whitland areas are) and Belle Meade has its own police department and your property tax bill includes your trash pickup at the back of your house so you don't have to carry your bins to the street.
