Last week my husband had 3 hubcaps stolen in the parking lot at Opry Mills mall (why only 3? who knows?...) Since then, we've been told by various people that crime is supposed to be growing at Opry Mills.

Has anyone else heard this?

That is so unfortunate. I really like Nashville but hopefully they will increase security. I love the Opry Mills Mall and have never had a problem.

I have heard that crime is on the rise at Opry Mills, but there is crime at any shopping mall. I don't know if Opry Mills has a higher crime rate than others or not. The same goes for gang activity.

They probably got spotted, hence only 3 taken...reminds me of the movie "Vacation" when Chevy Chase inadvertently drives into East St. Louis...

So I've heard that crime has gone up because other malls now have a curfew for minors and the mills doesn't. I remember hearing about a year ago someone getting shot around the food court.

I had heard it was near the theater. Security has been increased, and no more incidents that I know of.

Maybe they only needed 3? My husband had 1 taken 1 day and then they came back for the other 2 they needed the next, but that was in NY. We never bothered to replace them. Figured they would just get stolen again. The last 2 cars I bought had tires so I didn't have to worry about that.

High school kids out for the summer, record high gas prices...it's probably only going to get worse everywhere...at least petty theft...

Malls with a food court, movie theatre and/or arcades will have this kind of problem. When my husband and I visited The Mall at Green Hills for the first time we definitely noticed the lack of packs of teenagers just hanging around.

Unfortunately, this sort of thing is happening at the Hill Center a couple of blocks away from the Mall at Green Hills. My partner works there and he's informed me how several co-workers have had vehicle break-ins. His boss has complained to H.G. Hill Realty about installing security cameras in the garage. I can't believe they don't have them in their garage.

Car theft and break-ins have also been more prevalent around the nightspots in Midtown. My best friend had her radio stolen while at a bar on Church Street a few weeks ago. Like others have mentioned, theft crimes like these are only going to increase with the current state of the economy. Theives are going to be more prone to hit up areas they might not have previously considered.
