I currently live in Washington DC, in a nice little 1 bedroom condo (which I rent) that's about 700 square feet. What I love about it is the building--it's in this tiny little complex where each building is only 3 stories and has only 6 units. It reminds me of living in a house--there's a window in every room, and on both sides of the condo, so you get a nice cross-breeze in the summer.

I've been looking at condos around Nashville, where I'll be going to school next year, but it seems like there are a lot of high rises (which, for me, is anything over 4 stories) and then places like the Villager, which doesn't look altogether that nice. Am I missing something? Are there small, house-like condos (NOT townhouses) that are reminiscent of my DC experience?

Suggestions, please! My budget is under 200k, but the cheaper the better...2 bedrooms would be AWESOME, but I can settle for 1..

This is definitely the exception, not the rule, I'd jump on this ASAP if you are serious about buying a condo: Unit 403 at the Encore RIGHT DOWNTOWN is listed at $151,900. THAT IS A STEAL!

Edit: Okay, I was excited that I found a cheap condo, totally forgot you wanted one house-like. The Encore isn't house-like at all, but it's a GREAT steal.

Sorry, I posted before I saw the edit! It looks like a nice condo, though, if you like big buildings... any other suggestions? Anybody know anything about Longview Condominiums (3314 Long Blvd)?

Looks like they might be near Murphy Road between 440 and West End. Nice area, handy to Green Hills and downtown.

Not sure about that specific complex but I will add this tidbit. If you move into a unit that close to the interstate, be mindful of the potential for traffic noise, whether there's a sound barrier or not. My wife and I just moved out of a townhouse on Channing Drive, which backs right up against the interstate. We loved the place, even renewed our lease the first time up, but the constant drone of traffic was a drawback, especially at night when we were trying to sleep. I know that doesn't bother some people, but it is something to be aware of. I didn't think it would effect me as much as it did, considering that I grew up on a busy road in the suburbs of Boston, but it's nothing like having 14 lanes of interstate within 100 yards of your back door. I-440 isn't quite as wide, but due to the way the road is paved, it's probably pretty noisy.
