For any of you long-time Middle Tennessee residents, this will certainly come as a shock: WSMV News Anchor Dan Miller died of a heart attack last night in Augusta, GA.

Wow, I hadn't heard yet. So sad. They have a very moving video of the initial report on the WSMV site.

Wow, I hadn't heard about that either. Very sad. I didn't realize he was in his 60s, he looked like he was in his 50s. He will be missed.

I heard about it on the radio this morning and couldn't believe my ears! Growing up here, I've never known a news world without both Dan Miller and Chris Clark in it. Such an early, untimely loss.

One of my young transplanted co-workers said, "did you hear some news guy died? They actually broke in the Today Show with a Breaking News segment. You'd have thought it was a plane crash."

This is one that hopefully our transplants not try to understand and will let us take it upon ourselves to miss him. He wasn't just a news guy. He was Dan. He's been part of my life my whole life. Our Nashville family just lost a really good man. Rest in peace, Danno.

One slight correction . . . WSMV had his DOB as 1944 this morning (and still do in one of their videos). They are now showing it as 1941.

I'm going to miss Dan Miller!

Channel 4 just won't be the same. I miss the good old days when Channel 4 was Dan, Demetria, Bill, and Rudy. Summer just wasn't summer without Bill Hall's reporting the weather from someone's backyard tomato garden.

Dan Miller had a way of reporting the news with professionalism but also with a folksy edge. It was like he was the kind of person everyone would love to have over for dinner. He was FUNNY and quick-witted. He and Bill Hall had such a good relationship, and we were all blessed to be part of it. I was sad when Bill retired, and I'm really sad that Dan is no longer with us.

Those of us who have been around a while remember when John Tesh (the musician) was the co-anchor with Dan back in the 70s. And when Dan was the announcer for Pat Sajak's short-lived late-night TV show.
