Do you have any idea how long Amazon was in business before they turned their first quarterly profit, let alone an annual one? Look it up. Solid business plan + investors who believed in the company + happy customers = success in the long run. Uber/Lyft will be successful if they follow a similar path.

Just curious, as I may have missed it earlier.... are you a cabbie or related to one? My guess is yes. The only people I know who defend the taxi industry are those who have a vested interest in it surviving.

I got my business license per the requirements. But Silverflume offers a free license for people making under 27,000 a year. I did that last year. This year I will end up having to pay 200 for the license because I am over 27,000 already.
The county license is required as well. It's only 25. 225 is not bad for as much money as you can make.

And yes, everyone hates cabs. Even cab drivers won't take a cab. On the other hand, I pick up Lyft and Uber drivers on a daily basis. That says all you need to know about them.

As long as Uber/Lift is available. I will never ever take a taxi ever again.

Unless you drop your smart phone in the toilet bowl and didn't setup your ride to the airport app yet for your flight in two hours.

I would buy a new burner phone and take a lyft before taking a cab.

Well more and more cell phones are water resistant and can survive a quick dunk in the toilet, but assuming he didn't have one of those phones, he could have set up the ride to the airport up to a week and advance, or he could call a friend on his landline and have them send a car to pick them up.

no the app "turns off" when you cross the state line... however, you can have a ride from vegas to los angeles, you just won't have any rides on the way back

there are surges when there aren't enough drivers in an area, that causes the price to go up... its supply and demand
