Hi Everyone!

We are considering purchasing a house in Pahrump in the North West side of town. We both work from home over the internet and need reliable internet. We don't need blazing fast speeds but our jobs require us to make regular downloads of large documents (so a plan with monthly download limits will not work) and we would like to be able to watch Netflix. Is this going to be a problem? What are the current service options and what are the prices like?

Thank you for your time.

Lauren

You should proceed very carefully. The only service available in Pahrump is DSL or wireless internet. The DSL might work for you but is available only in parts of town. Everything is going to be slow - though perhaps fast enough. But be very cautious...there is no backup and there have been problems.

I am sure cre8lite will be along in a bit and can give the latest update...

Thank you for the response. Do you know if there is any area of town that has consistently reliable internet? I just ran a check at AT&T and they say the DSL service is not available at the house we are looking at.

One more Question? When you say wireless internet, are you referring to Verizon? or is there another company?

I would again be very skeptical of verizon. You would need to test at the house and you need at least three bars on 4gen most of the time.

The wireless internet is fixed antenna stuff not Verizon. There are two I believe.

actually valley electric has turned on their internet service & you will have no problems with them. $50/mo, with no throttling. at&t stopped installing dsl service out here a few years back.

i had verizon up until 2 months ago & had no problem with them either. comparable speeds to valley electric, but the price was more expensive & if i went over my alloted gb usage, it got really pricey.

Thank you again. That site is helpful. I will check the Verizon signal strength at the house tomorrow, but I don't think the Verizon service will be ideal. We used that for several years when we were traveling in our Motorhome and it was sufficient but not something I would want to rely on daily. It would be a good backup service if need be. Have you had any experience with Rise Broadband? It says they offer service at the house address.

stay away from rise - they started out as good, i'm not hearing good things about them lately (they keep raising their rates).

Oh, thats great! I saw a post in one of the older threads from 2013 or 2015 about them offering Broadband but I couldn't find any further information when I googled them.

As I just mentioned in the post above we had good experience with Verizon in the past but my concern is going over the allotted GB as you mention.

Do you know if Valley Electric's Internet service is available everywhere in Pahrump?

i do believe they have all of the towers up - at least that is what the tech told me when i had mine installed a few months ago.

when are you moving to town? since you'd have to contact vea to turn on your household electricity, they could probably tell you what towers are closest to you & if they are live or not.
