Helppppppp!!!! My husband accepted a job in southern NH and we are moving in the net few weeks. I know many people ask this but, where is the best town to live? We looked in Londonderry and Amherst but there isn't any real downtown area in either one. We want a small town but with a small shopping area maybe or a movie theater that sort of thing. Is there such a town?
We have 2 boys 11 and 12 so schools are a definet concern. We live in a great community now with lots going on and we don't want our boys to be in culture shock. We'd like a place were they can ride bikes to the ice cream shop, or movie theater etc. Any suggestions?
I think you need to consider how long your DH is willing to drive to commute, taking into account winter-follow-the-plow speeds. Commute routes are also important. Keene is tricky to get to/from. Anywhere on the 93 corridor between Nashua and Manchester is an easy commute to either city or even Concord. Route 101 is your other major road in the the south, unless he's in the Seacoast area, then it's 95.
Where's the job? Bedford is a good example of what you asked for, but downtime shopping is small and local businesses. Head to the highway towns for big-box stores and multiplexes.
Like Vksasena said, look at towns around where the job is. but.... the kids are going to have a bit of culture shock coming from FL to NH, not too much help for that (it's just not NH!). And.... I really wouldn't suggest Keene for someone not used to New England winter.
Central and seacoast would probably be your best bet - assuming the job is in that area.
He'll be working for 3 Lowe's stores in the southern new hampshire area
I'm afraid that's not much help. You see, southern NH covers a lot of territory for a small state. There are very few (like.. 2) superslab highways of more than 2 lanes. Most roads, regardless of having a route number, are usually around 45mph and are twisty and turney. You don't get anywhere terribly fast, as it will still take a good half-hour to get to the next town or so. So... that's why we're asking where his job is, not to stalk you or anything. It would make no sense at all if he's working around Peterborough to suggest checking out Portsmouth! taking a wild stab here: maybe Londonderry??
