Hi, we are about to move to Princeton, NJ. However my wife wants to live in a suburb close to Philadelphia. Empty nest. We want to buy a house in 600-800K range. We want to be close to restaurants, malls, etc. I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Your post is a little confusing. You say you are moving to Princeton, but want to live in a suburb close to Philly. Are you moving to Princeton or not?

Yes, moving to Princeton. I thought we could live somewhere close to Philly. Is too much stretch? I was under the impression that we can find a nice place with 40-45 min commute. Is it a fair assumption?

Sorry, still not getting it. Princeton is an actual town. If you move to Princeton.....you will live in Princeton. Are you trying to say you are willing to live 45 minutes away from Princeton?

I would say Princeton is probably more than an hour to downtown Philly. It has to be 35-40 miles. The traffic across the border at rush hour can be very bad although more people work in Princeton and live in PA (real estate is cheaper and taxes are lower). You could drive to Trenton (maybe 15 minutes) and then take the train to Philly. SEPTA | Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and check "regional rail". Have you looked at a map?

Are you taking a job in Princeton & want to live close to Philadelphia?

Thank you all. I am going to work close to Princeton and I am under the impression that living expenses are cheaper in PA. Since Philly is not too far away, we thought about living close to Philly (say northeast) and commute. That could be a either a suburb of Philly or cities nearby. In this way, we can live maybe 15-30 min from Philly downtown and 20-25 min from Princenton area. Also, we consider cities in NJ close to Philly. I hope this clarify the issue. Thanks.

any place in pa that is in line with what you have in Princeton is going to be every bit as expensive. The nearest location in pa that is even close to where you are not is Upper Makefield. Its just as expensive there..

Ask about Bucks County on the Philadelphia board. Look at Moorestown, Cherry Hill, & Haddonfield on the NJ side.
