I am relocating to Philly in the 2nd week of august from India and had a few questions:
1. My office is in city center and I am looking for a temporary furnished accomodation. Main focus would be safety and short commute. Which areas should I be looking in?
2. Are there any indian grocers in city center?
3. Can you do without a car in philly?
4. Are there any indian neighbourhoods in philly or specifically near city center?
There are some Indians in the far northeast section of Philly, but that's nowhere near Center City. There's some Indian, as well as Middle Eastern restaurants in University City, especially the neighborhoods along Baltimore Pike.
I'm not sure about Indian grocers beyond what Google could already tell you.
In Center City, most people will tell you you're better off without a car, unless you can afford to garage it.
You'll get better answers in the Philly section. Since this the South Jersey forum though, there's an Indian presence in the Cherry Hill area. If you really want a big Indian presence you'd have to venture up to North Jersey, (Edison, Jersey City, Parsippany).

I hope you found a good place to stay. I am moving to Philly soon. Can you please let me know about good indian apartments and preschool in Cherry Hill. How do you commute to Center City? Do you walk to train station? or is parking available?
I second the Indian presence in Cherry Hill. It is an easy driving commute to Philly or you could commute via PATCO which goes to 16th and Locust. It is an easy walk to Comcast or you can transfer at 8th and Market to the Market Frankford SEPTA line. Having a car in Cherry Hill is a necessity though.
I have personally never seen an Indian Grocer at all. However, that doesn't mean they don't exist
