Does anybody know why flights to/from Newark are more expensive than to/from La Guardia or JFK, 100% of the time?
There has to be some sort of reason for this, but nobody has ever given me a real answer. Is Newark more popular/convenient of a choice than the NY airports? I cannot imagine that would be the case.
That is definitely true also the continental united merger has had an affect. There are now less flights going business locations so the flights are fuller and thus have higher fares. For instance I fly EWR-ORD 5-6 times a year and would have no problem getting flights for $200-$300 on continental. The last 2 times I've tried the lowest I could get was $740!

YIKES! We haven't been to Orlando in over a year. I guess we are going to have a shock. I so totally hate going to any of the 3 NY airports and prefer Newark for a whole bunch of reasons.
1. Nicer people - employees and fliers in Newark
2. Less hassle getting there - and back - takes us 15-20 min; 30 tops in traffic (not rush hour, of course)
3. Taxis (when we need) are easier - and about the same cost
4. Nicer facilities
5. Fewer delays
6. Terminals (inside) are much less confusing
Newark does seem to be a bit more expensive, although in general the prices are usually about the same for all 3 airports when I have checked. I think part of the problem is Newark is mostly Continental flights, while the other airports have more of a mix of carriers. So Newark is basically a monopoly. I don't think I have ever flown out of Newark on a carrier other than Continental. Living in Jersey, I never even consider LGA or JFK because of the hassel getting to and from there. It takes me 15-20 minutes to drive to EWR, and probably an hour or more with traffic to LGA and especially JFK. I used to travel for business and a guy told me once that LGA is basically a ghost town these days, at least in terms of business travelers.

Actually I've flown many other airline other than Continental in/out of Newark (EWR). Being n the mainland it's a LOT easier to get to for me, not having to deal with crossing bridges, tunnels, rivers, etc.
It seems if you book ahead a week or more the flights are about the same money as LGA or JFK, but when you get into the last few days it might be about $100 to fly into EWR.
Newark is alot more expensive than JFK and LGA. When I lived in Jersey City, I mainly flew out of either JFK or LGA even though Newark was right next door. As stated previously, Newark is like a monopoly and COntinental is the only game, thus jacking up prices. I rather travel through the subways and take Airtran and save several $100 dollars than go to overpriced Newark.
Honestly, i could not tell you, but maybe because they have an 8,000,000 full body scanner for starters? No seriously i have no idea, sorry!
