I agree the city of Albany is a sewer, but I live in Guilderland next to Crossgates mall which is a very nice area. I have loved living here but feel that I have been here for 10 years and am looking for a change. We love the Yankees and love to go to games, I would love to hop on a train and in minutes be at Yankee Stadium or NY. My boyfriend is finishing school, I am in P & C insurance sales, we rent, so I thought if I was going to make a change, now would be the time to do it.
First thing I want to say is that You can not hop on a train and be at Yankee Stadium in minutes unless you live in NYC. It will take well over an over from anywhere in NJ via train. I can drive to the stadium in about 45 minutes, but it would take over 90 minutes to get their via train.
Unless you live in Hudson county in a town that you can take the PATH, it is fairly difficult/expensive/time consuming to get into NYC. I live 20 miles from Manhattan. If I want to go in, I either need to spend $15+ for one round trip train ticket (having to get off the first train in hoboken, and then getting on the PATH, and then walking to your destination). If I drive, I have to pay an $8 toll and find or pay for parking.
I would look at it as a financial decision. You need to do your own research regarding your own situation before making a move.
Don't know about fine dining in Albany, but I LOVE Wings Over Albany and haven't gotten to try all the varieties yet!
Quite good isn't it?
Wings over is actually a franchise that only has stores in Northeast college towns. I have thought for several years now that someone could make a fortune if they were to open Wings over New Brunswick.
I went to Albany a few years ago for a conference and stayed at the Hyatt. What shocked the heck out of all of us was the fact that they rolled up the streets at 5pm! I remember thinking, "this is the capital city". Really amazed me.
Other than that, I really liked it a lot. Such a pretty city. A few friends and I took a horse drawn carriage ride and that was a lot of fun.
I would live there.
That said, depending on your budget you could go to many places here in NJ and find what you are looking for. You may have to compromise on some things, but you would fit in just fine.
But dang, it's COLD up there. I picked her up last week, and it was at least ten degrees colder, plus there was snow on the ground, which we haven't had much of yet.
Last year NJ had a LOT of snow; almost double to Albany. You never know...

I only recently found that out. My niece, who lives in MA, told us that there is a Wings Over Boston.
Let's see...the nearest college to me is Monmouth University. I'd love it if they opened a Wings Over West Long Branch.

HA, tell me about it! All my life I've lived in North Jersey, mostly NW Bergen County. Whenever we heard the weather forecast say "Snow north and west of the city..." we knew we'd get whacked.
Last year I moved to Monmouth County, and was living temporarily in Long Branch while I looked for a condo to buy. I figured I'm near the ocean, which normally means slightly higher temperatures than inland, it's about sixty miles south of where I was from...great, I can expect much less snow.
That illusion was shattered by the first storm. I had FEET of snow, and it just continued all winter. My landlord said he hadn't seen snow like that in Long Branch in 20 years.

i actually looked into that when i was living in brooklyn. i thought it would be nice to open one up so at least i can have them when i wanted.
the city of albany is a sewer but the areas surrounding it are very nice. i lived there a for a couple of years and loved it.
why would you want to move?
Agreed plus the bus system in albany is improving as well why come to NJ who charges an arm and leg for that???
