Bay St. station is actually in Montclair. And yes, that is a pretty sketchy area. My friend has had his car broken into there.

we looked at a house in glen ridge that was walking distance to bay st (through a dead-end). the block seemed nice but i couldn't tell about the area.

definitely a sketchy part of town. We almost bought a townhouse in a community by there...the dude with no shirt chugging a 40 outside the liquor store by the southern entrance to the complex at 10am on Sunday morning deterred us from going through with the deal.
