Additionally, whites differentiate themselves from other "whites"..
This is reason for division between Northerners and Southerners.. and Midwesterners..
Northerners are largely Irish/Italian/Prussian-German/East European/Jewish stock.. For most of the 20th century, they were not even considered "white" by their Southern white Anglo Saxon counterparts.
This division still exists into today..
Your thinking on ethnicty and race are right out of 1920. You could be giving lectures on Eugenics.
Most Southerners don't really care that much about different ethnicity... Back in the Jim Crow days, one drop rule etc... You were white or colored... Although there was not a huge immigrant population, Polish, Italian, even Jews would have been "white". Granted they would have been different from many people around them
Furthermore the white people of the South are more ethnically diverse than many think. French and Spanish is LA even in MS, AL, Spanish in FL( no not recent immigrants from Cuba or Latin America, families who lived in St Augustine and Pensacola since colonial days), Germans and Swiss in the VA and NC, New Orleans was if I am not mistaken the 3rd largest arrival point for European immigrants, lots of Italians went there and spread around the South.
Many Hispanics from other countries are jealous of Puerto Ricans being automatically American citizens.....I came here in the late 40s. Most Puerto Ricans today, have gotten educated and moved on to better ways of life, however, they are still those people who love to try and bring them down, no matter how many PHD.s they get...... Too bad for them.....
That is why Puerto Ricans had to get New birth certificates. There was a lot of fraud with people from other countries, like Dominican Republic geting false papers to come to mainland US.
My ex wife was born in PR on the Navy Base at Roosevelt Roads and lived there til she was 5. We went to get passports a few years ago, she had to get a new Birth Certificate. It was sort of a PITA.

i'm not doubting ethnic minorities in the south, obviously they make up a large population.. i'm refering to white enclaving, it is very strong in the upper middle class and wealthy into today..

as much as you may deny it, vast majority of americans are extremely race and heritage sensitive... political correctness and media may paint a different picture, but the conversation changes within privacy.

Oh bless your heart, I have. My kids went to St Marks Episcopal Day School in Jacksonville, Florida, quite a few partys at the Timacuana Golf Club and Florida Yacht Club. They have cotillion every spring.
And ethnic enclaving in places like Spring Lake, Deal know for being Irish and Jewish respectivally
Same enclaving at an event at the Rammallah Club, founded by Arabs who settled in Jacksonville. I am related by marriage to a prominent Arab Family in Jacksonville. The same "who's your daddy" questions. both places.
Now its seems to be a money thing more than ethnicity. Oprah and Obama and Bloomberg go to Marthas Vinyard or the Hamptons on vacation. Ed and Mary or Vinny and Angela go to Ocean City or Myrtle Beach

the episcopal church in the US is the american province of the anglican church, which is basically "Catholic-Lite". their membership is different from a white anglo saxon protestant, aka wasp, which infers a race identification. different communities.. the founding generations were mostly puritans, who later refered to themselves just as protestants.. many protestants fled england, persecution via anglican church. this is further evidence of invisible divisions within white enclaving. a southern wasp country club is white as a sheet.
back to NJ, it used to be a puritan state, there are remnants of those times via blue laws.. you'd be hard pressed to find any Johnsons, Smiths, or Schmidts left in North Jersey.. most of the Dutch, German protestants and WASPS migrated south and to the west past several decades when other "white" flight demographics such as Jews, Italians, Irish and now Hispanics moved in from the city. My point is there is still an invisible division that people don't really talk about.

i'm not saying those clubs don't exist, i'm saying that there is enclaving between.. there are asian societies that are exclusively asian, south asian/indian that are soley their demographic..
hamptons and martha's are generally tourist venues.. open to the public.
however, there are areas in our society that are still very enclaved in the private world...
i'm not suggesting it's a good thing, i don't think it is.. i'm just a passive onlooker.
the "white" puerto rican must be wondering where he fits within white enclaving
