I'd say at least an 1 1/2 hours. Route 80 is a parking lot between Parsippany and Rockaway, it's brutal. I commute from Parsippany to North Bergen (right next to JC) and it takes me an hour. I mean it, Route 80 westbound starting from Parsippany is absolutely brutal for weekday commuting.

Not to mention the traffic problems in the JC area, but I don't want to discourage you too much

Traffic depends on time. I get from Ogdensburg to Carlstadt (Mostly I80 starting at mm34 and getting off at mm 64) 55 mins in and 1:20 out. Then again. I leave at 530AM. The one day I left at 645 AM it took me 1:15 going in.

I like Rockaway. Its commercial suburban.
Dover IS NOT dangerous. Its hispanic so you may well speak the wrong language. I drive through all the time and never ever felt threatened.
Denville is nice but costs a bit more. More old school commercial than big box commercial.

Above is correct about westbound I80. MM~42 to MM34 is stop and go and even Leaving at 3PM only lessens the pain. This jam is EXTREMELY variable. Worst on Fridays in summer when New Yorkers head to the Poconos or in bad weather. Yesterday though was a breeze. The jam didn’t start until mm38. The one Friday I made the mistake of getting in the NYC traffic the jam started at mm48

I'm sorry, but being that we're from GA and have only been to NJ once, I have no idea what you are talking about as far as mile markers...what mmm do we get off for JC?

I dont live close to NYC and spend as little time as possible there. It looks like taking 280 would be best for JC. That is exit 47 from 80...

Coming home you would likely hit traffic around mm42. Give or take. Depends on the day.

Rockaway is mm 37 (main street and white meadow lakes )and 35 (mall). For reference on I80 PA is mile marker 0 and the end at I95 close to NYC is MM 68

Your drive home is usually going to be longer than coming in. If you employer lets you work 7 to 4 take the deal as it will save you some drive time both morning and night.

ack ill clarify. It takes me 55 minutes to get to work. It takes me an hour 15 minutes to get from work. Most of the difference is the Denville hill traffic jam starting ~ mm42.
