I was going to say St. Peter's as well, but didn't know where Edgewater is so I don't know how close you are. I'm sure St. Peter's will also work with you regarding the no insurance.
Since you're already 8 months-you might be able to get a discount from the dr. since their case fee for maternity and delivery includes the pre-natal visits and delivery. Be sure to ask about that. You can negotiate their fees if they are willing to do so-but you have to ask. You can also probably negotiate with the hospital as well. They may give you a discount for paying in cash. The worst they can say is no, right? You should expect bills from the hospital, the OB, the anesthesiologist (if you use one), and any other provider who may take care of you. They are not included in the hospital bill. Good luck and congratulation.
I know *nothing* about it.... but can anyone speak to the Palisades Medical Center? sky0826, this would probably be the closest I can think of, though I have no knowledge or experiences with it.
Without a doubt I would go to Hackensack University Medical Center. They have a brand new mother/baby addition and are very well equipped for any complication in the NICU. Take it from someone who has worked there for many years-they take care of the sickest premature and sick babies. If you don't have insurance, they also have a huge clinic. In the new mother/baby building, everyone gets a private room. Good luck!!
Just wanted to say that I am sorry you are in the stressful situation of having to deal with having a baby without insurance.
Hackensack is very good and is rated the top hospital in NJ for safety I believe.
You definitely want to negotiate in advance and see if they have any special assistance programs too, I know that St. Peters certainly does, you may need to be means tested but it may be worth it as the hospital bills can be ferocious - tens of thousands of dollars.
Good luck with the delivery, we have 2 kids and they are a joy.
