but the discount is for booking 2 flights at once. i don't know if there really is a discount on a round trip, but if there is then me missing one leg still doesn't matter. the airline offers a discount to get the total fare of both trips, which they did. if they didn't benefit from that, then they wouldn't offer a round trip discount to begin with. the fact that i didn't show up doesn't change that. in fact, they benefited from me not showing up.
i called to change the flight and found out the cost was greater than booking a new flight. i didn't call to cancel because i didn't realize that they would punish me for not showing up. they lose nothing by me not showing up so it doesn't make sense for them to punish me.
