Yup. There's a huge area involved. The larger the area the more diluted the assistance will be. For instance, eastern NC. I don't know if Progress is the power company there, but it is in Raleigh which is the state capital & was involved with the storm. Duke is in the process of buying Progress, so Duke will be in there & Duke is not just in NC. . .so there goes help from some potentially closer areas. Eastern NC is an unholy mess, & whether anyone else goes there to assist, I won't speculate. It may be assumed that Duke can provide enough extra manpower.
i think it's possible for people who have no power because of flooding, because until the flooding goes down, they can't fire things back up (like Jersey City had a powerplant flooded, so they had to shut down power to 20% of Hoboken)...but for everything else, they'll get to it within a few days (transformers, lines, etc).
Mightyqueen, I have JCPL too (and also thought to myself, glad I don't have PSEG)...but had no power all yesterday into this morning as well. I could deal with eating granola bars for dinner by candlelight. The sump pump going out, however...not so fun. I had to shovel water. Ugh. I cleaned up the best I could. I have the dehumidifier on full blast down there now.
I do have PSEG for gas. Kind of off topic, but out of nowhere today, I got a soliciting call from a Plymouth Rock Energy who wanted to speak with the person in charge of the PSEG bill. They gave me a hard sell (actually, they were pretty pushy and rude) on why I should switch energy providers to Plymouth Rock. The call seemed pretty shady to me...they were asking me for account info and numbers. Plus...the post-Irene, PSEG outage timing, lol.

They're probably just the energy suppliers asking you to switch from current suppliers that JCPL uses. JCPL would still be your service provider but many companies are offering customers to switch to them as the power supplier. Many walk around door to door trying to get people to switch these days.
56 hours into our power outage - still no power or water. starting to wear very thin. JCP&L, morris county.
You don't even have water in Morris County? Wow, I have water and how water which is nice, however the power loss is starting to wear thin.
Also, given the amount of work my town needs (downed wires, poles) and the fact that I have yet to see a truck, I think it may be a long while before we get power back. Although even if power is back, I heard cable lines are down so phone, internet and TV will not be working.
Any idea what strategy they are using to restore power?
Does each county have an allocated number of workers?
Are they working East to West?
Are they tackling those towns hardest hit first?
Is hardest hit a total number or a percentage of the town?
I think they may be focusing on the shore to get them ready for Labor Day weekend since it is such a revenue generator for them.
