I am a North Jersey guy who is going to be working in either Princeton or Roseland in a year. Both jobs pay about the same amount (5,000 more in Princeton). I have two major concerns. The primary concern is the cost (both the cost of the home and property taxes). A lesser concern for now is the schools because I can always move when I have kids.

Any guidance in making the decision would be useful. Where are homes cheaper? Taxes are always high, but which area is worse?

Thanks in advance

I know nothing about Princeton, but Roseland taxes aren't that high for Essex county. Take a look online at the houses currently on the market to get an idea. A lot could change in a year. Good luck!

Don't know anything about Roseland. But know that Princeton prices and taxes are pricey. Check out realtor.com 08540, for Princeton house prices. The schools in Princeton are really good and the town is really nice but it comes with a healthy price tag.

I live in Roseland 33 years. Our taxes for two story Cape Cod with basement and inground pool on 100X75 lot vent from $1500 to $4900 in that time.Office complex is 1M away.Work there 25y.Town has a great school and hi school is West Essex. Our kids graduated from there.Couple houses are for sale in Roseland.Including mine.Retiring to Florida.Housing prices are down 5 to 6% and mortgage rates to. It is buyers market.Deside soon.

If you work in Princeton; you can also look into Bucks County PA; taxes are much cheaper and the schools are top notch.
