Does anyone know any fast and easy ways to get to Lyndhurst, NJ? I am coming from Queens (easy access to Grand Central and LIE) and want to know how to get there without having to cut through Manhattan. I will be probably be driving sometime between 4:30 and 6:30 on a Friday. Any pointers on this? It'll be my first time driving into NJ. Thanks!
You have a choice of avoiding tolls between Queens, which is geographically part of Long Island and Manhattan or SI. You have to cross 2 rivers either or any way you go.
If you take any of the toll free East River crossings like the "59'er" 59th St Queensboro Br, Williamsburg Br, Manhattan Br, Brooklyn Br and a few others up by the Bronx you pay no tolls since going over the Hudson is toll free Westbound. You will have to pay going back into NY.
If it where me I would either take the BQE to the Willy, go straight across lower Manhattan to the Holland, then you are in America, USA proper.
Other ways are 59th St bridge from Van Dam exit off LIE or from Queens Blvd then either go all the way up the FDR, East River to I-95 Cross Bronx, over the GWB or the 59'er to the Lincoln Tunnel.
A lot depends on traffic at the time.
TriBoro Br (RFK) allows you to goup I-87 Deagen to I-95 and the GeeDub, paying a toll on the Triboro.
Either way you go their will be traffic due to river crossings to America.
At that time of the day and on Friday anyone can guarantee you will hit some traffic escaping NY.
The Willy B drops you onto Delancey St which normally you just go as far west as you can and go one block left then right again onto Broome St which goes right into the hole in the wall (Holland T) to America.
