I have friends who go to Atlantic City on a daily basis and they tell me its packed everytime they go. Why does the media make it out to be struggling???

It is crowded, but it's not the media making it out to be struggling, it's based on quarterly P&L reports that show losses for the casinos. The casinos ARE struggling, despite the crowds.

AC is screwed. They've only started "Vegas-ing" their image in the last few years in response to neighboring states all opening casinos and poaching thousands of gamblers who would've been AC regulars. I don't see why we should be dumping more money into it as gambling is becoming more & more localized as people from PA, NY & DE go to ones nearby.

The race-inos in NYC are doing gangbuster business. Most of these people were AC daytrippers in the past.

On one hand we have your friend telling you AC is packed. On the other hand we have financial reports telling us they are hurting. Call me crazy, but I will go with the financial reports.

Packed every time doesn't correlate to not loosing money. It's the win/loss ratio which will affect P&L casinos are reporting.

Let's put it this way, if a store is packed with customers but nobody spends the money. Store isn't doing well. If a casino is packed with customers but house loses more than win...plus time to time hot shot professional swings by and takes a big bite out of your profit by kicking your butt...

It doesn't matter if casino is packed with customers does it

My friend goes a lot as well. He's a professional poker player and he tells me it is packed all the time. He even has trouble getting a hotel. I don't get it because I think AC is disgusting. It is filthy and the quality of the people are the bottom of the barrel. I'd rather travel to Scottsdale, AZ and go hiking in the mountains.

I am sure you also have to look at how much these "crowds" are spending. If they are popping in pennies into the penny machines, that would be insignificant for the casinos. It is not just numbers, it is dollars that determines AC prosperity.

The hotels are offering more discounted and free rooms to get people down there. I think the casino's are still crowded but not like they were a few years back. Also it used to be impossible to get reservations for the nicers restaurants but now it is not so bad. It leads me to believe that while people are traveling to AC they are not spending money on food, shoping and gambling like the used too.

I think I read on city-data one time a few years back that a poster said that they could fly & stay in Vegas for a few days cheaper than staying a few days in AC. Maybe that's changed but it's still amazing.
