Hi everyone

After graduating from University, I found a job in NJ. Therefore, I will be moving to NJ very soon from Long Island, NY (my parents home). I found a place to live with a roommate (in Bergen County). I plan to live there only 6 months before I can save $$$ and get a place of my own later or something.

In order to get NJ taxation (not NY cause NY tax is high ), do I have to change adress of government-issued ID (such as driver's license? I won't be driving though)? What do I need to change? Because I plan to stay only for 6 months, I don't know what I can do without having so many addresses under my record (I don't know if this is good or bad )

Thank you so much in advance for your help and time.

There's no law against moving often, though it can prove to be a pain when filling out loan applications (they typically want all addresses you've lived in a certain time, like 2 years or 5 years). For tax purposes you don't need to change your ID, but if you are driving you are required to within (I think) 60 days. This can be a problem if you're living with a roommate unless your name is actually on the lease, because you need proof of address. Easiest thing in that situation is to make sure your bank and/or credit card companies have your new address on file, and use a bill. Doesn't work if you've gone paperless, though, because the DMV doesn't accept printouts.
