I am wondering if you can give suggestions for where I can go to get help with my taxes. I live in Paramus, but I can travel anywhere in Bergen County so long as the person who would do my taxes is competent, clear, and affordable.

I have been going to H&R and they have been very good. However, it is really expensive costing over $200 for their services. I don't own a home nor do I have children so my financial situation is pretty simple, yet I am pretty incompetent when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Please help. Would love to know where you go as personal recommendations go a long way for me.

Thanks in advance!

I am in the financial services industry, and I work with accountants constantly. Any quality accountant/CPA will charge more than H&R Block, regardless of the simplicity of the return. It's just a matter of training/background/education/etc., economics, economies of scale, etc. Even if a return takes thirty minutes, every accountant I know has a minimum charge which equates to more than an half-hour of billable time. While I never recommend tax preparation services, perhaps you should consider one of H&R Block's competitors. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I guess my next question is who are H&R competitors. I'm sorry if this is obvious, but I honestly don't know.
