Bayonne is launching the Shop Bayonne Property Tax Reward Program this week as part of an effort to encourage Bayonne residents to shop locally.
The program provides property tax credits for homeowners and rebate checks for renters every time they patronize local participating merchants.
Later this month, the city will mail 11,000 Shop Bayonne swipe cards to every known property-tax-paying household in the community.
Thousands of others will be distributed through major employers, tenant associations, at City Hall, on Broadway, and through the program’s sponsor, the Bayonne Community Bank.
According to the Mayor’s Office, the program will not cost the city any money, and will be paid for entirely by the bank.
Its an interesting idea, but all the info I could find online about it was pretty vague.
