I recall the worst being: in 1996, 2001, 2011, and apparently (I'm not around for it) this year being pretty bad as well.

The more mild ones: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2012

The so-so ones: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2013

I wasn't around from 2006-2010. Which in your opinion were the worst winters?

The winter of 1996-97 was the worst, in my opinion.
I don't recall the exact number of large storms, but it was...a lot...and they came in close succession to each other.

At the time, I was living in a townhouse condo, and it had gotten to the point where the snow piles next to my driveway were at least 4 feet high. If we had gotten another large snowstorm, I would not have been able to toss more shovelfuls of snow onto that already very high pile. Thank God that I didn't have to.

That was the winter when my house was being built, and the construction delays resulting from the repeated heavy snowfalls led to my closing being delayed from late June '97 to mid-August '97.

Sure that wasn't 1996? I don't remember 1997 that well. I think 1998 was mild because of el nino (just remembered.)

1996 was also a year where we had some particularly bad spring and summer thunderstorms -- to the point of tornadic.

Because our winters straddle two calendar years, I am calling it the winter of 1996-97.

Are you saying that you think it was the winter of 1995-96?

Yes, my bad. I'm thinking 95-96 aka: the blizzard of 96. That was only time in going to public school where we exhausted all of our snow days so early on that the district took away our February vacation.

How about 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, 2-3 major blizzards every week!

December 2002 was the last time we had a white Christmas--and a significant amount of snow. 2003 just after turned out to be a horrible or wonderful Winter--lots of snow and depends on if u like it or not.

History has now repeated itself. President's day is gone, now they start eating into spring break with each additional snow day.
