I am under the impression that Canada trades with Cuba? So what is our Mayor doing there seeking trade?

Everyone trades with Cuba. The only country in the world with a current embargo is the USA. (and a couple of Pacific Islands that would have zero trade with Cuba anyway and we nearly control).

Is this a serious question? The US and Canada have the largest and most comprehensive trading partnership on the planet. They are our single largest foreign provider of energy.

I'm running for Mayor of New Jersey next term...under my citydata handle.

I'd rep you if I could. The USA has more international trade with Canada than with any other country — recently about $600 billion a year.

For those wondering, our trade with China is about $500 billion annually — and yes, we BUY more from China than we do from Canada... but China does not return the courtesy, hence our China trade deficit is much greater.

You failed to tell us which municipality you reside in, so we have no idea regarding which mayor you are referring to.

Wow, this is why you asked us this question on the Canada forum? If you care so much about this issue you want Americans to stop trading with us too, please consider the economic devastation that would be wrought if the US stopped trading with every country except Israel and a few pacific islands (ie. every state that trades with Cuba). Embargos go both ways and the US cannot maintain its first world lifestyle without international trade. Certainly, beginning with your largest trading partner and strongest ally would be a terribly self destructive action. 8 million US jobs are dependent on trade with Canada, and your mayor is probably trying to bring more of those to your community which is admirable.

you cant seriously be suggesting that we stop trading with canada because they trade with cuba?

i think the fact that america doesnt trade with cuba is incredibly stupid. sure, they are evil commies but who cares? we trade with people because it benefits us.
