Too bad it's not required reading in the public schools. Maybe the state could be saved for future generations.
Maybe the question of "how are my kids going to be able to buy a house in NJ" will disaapear, like it should.
I love NJ - but I'll honestly be surprised if I ever buy a house. Don't get me wrong - I'd love to own one day, and it's not the price of the home that scares me, but moreso the taxes
First off I have not read the book. I am not trying to say NJ is perfect or even that anything in this book is untrue.
What I will say however is. The reason people joke about NJ are the same reasons people bash celebrities who gain weight or get divorced or whatever. Or people who bash the Catholic Church. There is an amount of envy over the accomplishments and success. If you notice, the late night TV hosts dont bash places like Tennessee. That would make them look like bullys picking on poor old Tennessee. But if he bashs NJ, He is the little guy taking on the giant. He places himself in the underdog position and almost everyone roots for the underdog.
One more thing. I could live anywhere I want in this country. I choose to live in New Jersey.
What exactly is "bashing the Catholic Church"? You probably think the news reporters who commented on the church child sex scandal in the Boston Archdiocese are Catholic bashers.
It looks like a worthwhile read. Since this book is not likely offered in a New Mexico public library, I will be asking this as a birthday present. Thanks for the info on this book to the OP.

Just checked our library as well- I guess they figured us rednecks didn't need to read it either. Or maybe there wasn't room on the shelves between The Illustrated History of the John Deere Tractor" and Jeff Foxworthy's "You Might Be a Redneck If......".......lol

Bob,
Truthfully, I think it's more of a case of the average New Mexico resident not giving two ****s about the sad state of affairs in the formerly great Garden State, or just being relieved they have not been exposed to similar corruption.
So do I, but only as long as I continue working. When I decide to quit working (career-wise that is) me, my family and my wallet are outta here.
Absolutely! Excellent post!
