Default How do people handle the commute from Lake Mohawk/Sparta to NYC?

I'm thinking of buying a house in Lake Mohawk NJ and have commuting concerns.

I need to be at work at 42nd & Fifth weekdays by 8:00am, and tend to leave work around 7:00pm.

I know there's a bus to NYC in Lake Mohawk Square and another bus that stops in front of the supermarket in Sparta on Route 15, but I'm concerned about traffic. From those that take a bus, what is the REAL spring, summer, fall, winter commuting time - just how bad is the traffic? On Route 15? On I-80? Crossing the Hudson?

I'm also aware of the Dover train but I still have to drive to it and then it seems to take as long as the bus.

Are there any other mass transportation options, including private services, that I may be overlooking? The alternative would be to go for reliable train service but get less house in New York State - particularly Ossining, Merrick or Monroe.

I live in Ogdensburg (next town north). Driving:

Leave at 5 AM and you will make it in by 615 AM almost every day.*

Leave at 6AM and you will make it in by 815 AM almost every day*

* +50% on rain OR when people crash their cars and get in the way.
* +150% when it snows AND everyone crashes their cars and get in the way.

BTW Lk Mohawk is very very nice.

There simply is no truly easy way to get into the city. I get off the interstate 4 mi from the city. PATH trains are probably the easiest but it is merely less complicated.

With the new mt arlington station it could be an easy commute to the train from the south end of sparta (around green road or off sparta stanhope road). no traffic that way on any day. back roads. country. the rt 15 commute to 80 from sparta can be a bear but note times put here by someone before. a lakeland bus departs from two sparta stops for nyc every day. that could be a no stress way in and out too. more on sparta at ch973 at me3tv dot org
