Where at in Montclair?

Have you tried Essex House in W.O.? (I've eaten there once, a birthday dinner. Glass of red wine + filet mignon [with "included" sides] + tip = 50 ish, for myself alone. Though, I must say, that was one of the best steaks I've ever eaten.)

And BTW......No way to buffets!
The husband and I feel the same way! For us, dining out is just a way to avoid cooking or to enable us to try an exotic cuisine (Korean, Indonesian, etc.) that we normally don't cook 'cus we don't have the ingredients in our own kitchen.

We keep our budget at $40-60 so that allows us to put more towards our early retirement savings.

I got food poisoning there about 15 years ago. I haven't been back since.

I love Applebee's! Is Tahiti looking for a bit of a tussle... LOL! I'm just irked that they stopped doing karaoke on Wednesday nights with the 1/2 price appetizers!

Eh...to each his own I suppose. I'm just as happy eating a small bowl of spaghetti and meatballs and drinking a glass of water at the cute mom-and-pop place down the hill from my home for a very reasonable price and then walking back up the hill to burn off the calories.

LOL! My Crap's has 1/2 price drinks from 10 until closing!

Crap's is decent for what it tries to do, but honestly I'm like you, where I'd rather spend my money on the local joint than the chain.

Please tell me you don't frequent Crapplebees! For the chains, I can tolerate Outback. Their Alice Chicken is outstanding! Other than Outback, it's nothing but mom and pop joints for me.

Rita & Joe's under the Skyway in Jersey City is excellent (usually), and a nice night out will run about 70 or so.

No!!! LOL it's good for the kids - we go maybe 3xs a year.

I was recently at Rita and Joe's for a friend's surprise party! Excellent food. Joe just died.

Rita and Joe's...another blast from the past.

Years ago it used to be an auto body shop.
The shop was infested with vermin. I was in a small fender bender and my car was being repaired there. I forgot to take out the pizza box that was on the back seat after working overtime one day. After the car was repaired I picked up the pizza box to throw it out and whatever made its way into the box ate right thru it and into the seat.
Well this is a food thread...isn't it?
