Looking for inexpensive wood flooring for approximately 1600sqft since the carpets are filthy and we just want to make it livable until we expand in 2-3yrs which would require ripping out walls and needing to redo the floors. Where are the best places to check for prices in northern nj or surrounding areas?

Careful with lumber liquidators. Perhaps their wood is ok, but their laminate has big problems. 60 Minutes did a segment on it recently. You can probably find it online. Some of their laminates if not all are manufactured in China, and the glue they are using exceeds (formaldehyde emissions) the limit by over 300% the allowable limit, and is responsible for respiratory problems and even possibly some cancers.

Check to see if you have an Home & Decor stores in your area.

If you value your health, avoid Lumber Liquidators.

If you only need it for 2-3 years then just replace the carpet for a temp fix.

agreed, or throw down some of the fake wood to save money. I can't imagine putting in real wood floors and ripping them out in 3 years.

I wouldn't use laminate. On the Lumber liquidators site I see natural maple for $2.26, pretty good if you like that. Youc an get oak or pine for a lot less. The oak looks pretty rough though while the maple looks clean.

Why not try laminate flooring? It is inexpensive and maintenance-free.
