Also, one thing that attracts me to Marlboro is the (relatively) lower property tax. I read in another thread that the property tax is going to be reassessed and is going to go up by a lot. Is there any truth to this?

All of Monmouth County is being reassessed. My town (Freehold Township) did it last year and we still haven't recieived the new tax bill. There is talk that if the homes are asssessed too high it will be an issue with many people because of the bad market and lower home values. The towns may be tied up for a while if there are a lot of people fighting their tax assesment. My three children have gone through the Freehold Regional school system. Another poster mentioned specialties in each district school. That does not guarantee that your child will get into the school if he / she elects a specialty because there are also size limitations. Freehold Borough also has the culinary program as well as Med-Sci. Good luck with your move. By the way there are also a number of Vo-Tech schools in Monmouth County that have a lot to offer and are highly rated. There is High Tech in Middletown, Vo-Tech in Freehold and Marine and Science at Sandy Hook. Once again good luck
