I thought that you had to be registered as either a Dem or Republican to vote in a primary. I am not registered as a Dem or Repub but received a sample ballot in the mail yesterday. (At least, I don't recall registering under a party) Can anyone vote on Super Tuesday regardless of political affiliation? TIA!
In which party (Democrat or Republican) primary election can I vote?
You must be "affiliated" with a party to vote in its primary election on February 5, 2008. You can declare a party affiliation when you register to vote. If you did not chose a party affiliation when you registered to vote, you can do so the first time you vote in a primary at the polls. However, if you want to switch a previously declared affiliation (i.e., Republican to Democrat or vice versa), you must do so 50 days before the election.

I'm a Libertarian. But I'm registered as a Republican, because I want to be able to vote in primaries. Since the early 80s, I've pretty much always voted Libertarian when possible. However, this year, if either Clinton or Obama is the Democratic candidate (and surely one will be), then I'm going to vote for them because I think it's important to break the demographic barrier. We need to open up the playing field so that you do not have to be white and male and straight/married and religious to be President. So my strategy for the primary will be to vote for a Republican who will have no chance against either Clinton or Obama; and I've got a good one, because I actually like him--Ron Paul. He'll never make it because he's too Libertarian (and he used to actually be a Libertarian).

I'm not sure what that means. Does that mean that if I chose Democrat that I can't vote republican? I have to let them know I'm changing?
Yes. If you're registered as a Democrat, you have to vote for a Democrat in the primary. You can change party affiliations, but it's too late to do so for this primary.
Did everyone else receive sample ballots? We have not, and I'm a little nervous about this.
We just moved, and immediately switched our registrations to our new town, and we did receive confirmation from the registrar, but no sample ballots yet.
I'll be just sick if there is an issue with us voting on Tuesday.

I received a sample ballot, but oddly, because it's the first time in years that I actually got it. I typically have a problem with my mail because I'm in a multi-family apartment building with mailboxes without locks on them facing a major street in Jersey City--the mailman either sticks the mail in the box by the sidewalk sticking out in the open, or he places it all in a big pile on the main staircase in the building . . . we get tons of mail for people the apartment building tenants have never heard of--probably former tenants, and a lot of it tends to get lost, stolen, accidentally thrown away, etc.
I have a P.O. Box in Manhattan, and any important mail has to go there instead. But some places--like the board of elections, immigration (my wife isn't from the US), etc., have a problem with sending mail to another state.

right. only if you've never voted in a primary or haven't declared affiliation can you "choose" on tuesday. the deadline for switching parties was in december.
I wouldn't really consider myself to be either a democrat or a republican. I am registered as democratic, but I vote for whoever I think is best at the time. So what if I don't want to vote for Hillary or Obama?
Or your saying I just can't vote for Republican during the primary - and that during elections it doesnt matter? So - if Hillary wins democratic I can vote for McCain for president?
(not that I would do that - I'm just throwing out an example - I don't like any of them lol)
