She actually was from Arkansas but was smart enough to get into Princeton University, so she qualified for the Miss New Jersey pageant because of that.
However, for despite her intelligence, for some strange reason she was not wearing her seat belt and driving too fast on icy roads. However, the air bag did work.
Her resume reel for TV news (she got the job) apparently shows her getting into the car she died in, ironically talking about car safety (at about 23 seconds).
This is sad, but it should be a testament to everyone why wearing a seat belt can obviously be the difference between life and death. I guess it's possible she could have died even with it on, but considering she had major head trauma I can only assume her body was thrown headfirst into the windshield or directly into one of the trees she hit or something. I can't believe there are people out there who don't wear seat belts, I ALWAYS have mine on, whether driving or a passenger it's like second nature for me.
It looks like she made a decent news anchor, she probably had a promising career, and the work she did as Miss NJ is also impressive.
