Moving back to New Jersey and will settle in the Middletown. I've been away 7 years and I am sure traffic changed.
Will be making a daily commute from Middletown to Picatinny starting in September. Anybody have any experience from this route and how long it will take. Thanks.

Are you aware that--no matter which route you might choose--that trip is going to take anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours--each way--on a good day?
On a rainy day, you can add at least 30 minutes each way.
In the event of snow, that trip will probably wind up being about 3 hours + in duration.
IMHO, if your job is at Picatinny, you should be living much closer than in Middletown.

Once again Google maps is giving impression of a shorter (in time) trip. Now I am really concerned as I remember years on 287 heading into Piscataway. Wow, I better think this over on where to move.
Yeah it is between about 64 and 74 miles each way depending on what routes you take, so if you're doing that in rush hour I would expect a good 90 minutes to 2 hours each way.
I remember there's a section of Rockaway Twsp that is about 10 minutes from Picatinny called Middletown, you could probably walk that one
As others have mentioned, it is going to be a rough commute. However, many people that work at Picatinny commute from far away and have flexible work arrangements. I don't know if those are available in your position, but if you really can't live closer, I'd look into seeing what options are available to you.
Yea, I am going to inquire about a flexible schedule or bite the bullet and live closer, something I don't want to do because wife, brother and myself need to take care of ailing mother in her 90's and will be living at her house.
When I get back I will make test drives on different routes. I know the ice, snow and other inclement weather will tack on a heap of time.

DIL works there and during bad weather they sometimes have delayed opening, it's still a brutal commute
Years ago I spent numerous hours on 287 for work, but that is when I was a spring chicken. Now, I am a lot older and spoiled by a 20 minute commute to work each day. Sunny weather each day. Again, trade offs in life.

Where are you moving from? All the best to you in your move!
