Planning to hiring an attorney is good. It's good that you already discussed with your insurance holder. Be good at the court, avoiding your appearance to the court can lead you be arrested. THe officer was right. You were sued for personal injury, no doubt.

I'll second the delayed pain reaction. My previous car was totaled by someone running a red light. Fortunately, the witness who stayed until the police came convinced me to go to the hospital. I just wanted to go home. I ended up having a hairline fracture on my knee cap from the steering column being pushed backward, and whiplash. Never even felt it until the adrenaline rush faded.

People still suck, though. Was in a second, minor accident that was my fault - a lane change where I didn't see the other person. She was a single mom, trying to get herself through school while working graveyard shift. She didn't have a credit card, which she needed to rent a car while her bumper was being fixed. I gave her $250 to put on a pre-paid, so she could get her rental. I knew there's was a better-than-good chance I'd never get it back, but it was still a bummer when she didn't return the money. (My insurance paid for the rental.) Oh well. At least I feel like I did the right thing, since it was my fault, and I wasn't given a ticket. Maybe for not trying to b.s. the cops about the fact that I'd caused the accident?
