Hi everyone,

College student in NYC looking to rent on either summit cross rutherford, herman ave or uhland ave east rutherford, or mountain way in lyndhurst.

Any input on which is the safest? I love the ones in East Rutherford but worried about neighborhood because I only have friends in Rutherford but seems like train track side is only difference.

Thanks!

They're all safe. Rutherford is the nicest.

I concur that all 3 are safe, but Rutherford is the most high-end of the three. It is probably also the most expensive to rent in though. If you're young, single, and want nightlife, East Rutherford is the best bet. Rutherford is a dry town with mostly families. Lyndhurst has no real downtown.

Yes the 2 bars in Rutherford are actually in East Rutherford. The only difference in the 2 is the school district, which you wouldn't care about.

Rutherford or East Rutherford near train station, the East Rutherford side of the tracks has 2 good Bar/restaurants, and in Rutherford has a downtown with many byob restaurants, if you live near train station you can easily walk to either side, and walk home after consuming many cold beers at park tavern or blarney station.

We lived in Rutherford for 11 years and just moved to the Boston area. I would try for Rutherford, choose somewhere walking distance to the train station, if you like to go to NYC. It's a very walkable town with sidewalks everywhere, has a nice downtown with some good restaurants (all byob) and very safe. How I miss Rutherford! I loved to go for runs on the hilly, tree-lined streets.
