Rutherford area pre-schools : trouble getting admission ! (Lyndhurst, East Rutherford: pre-school, law, move)

so we had reviewed a number of pre-schools in our area for 2 year old and settled down on Rutherford Montessori or East Rutherford Montessori. We had the name put on wait list last June - 2016 in both places. They both told us that slots should open in Jan 2017. Now guess what- we have been following up with them and they are saying the name continues to be in wait list and no timeline when there would be an opening.

Feeling angry now that we still don't have pre-school for our now 3 year old.

How do admissions work really? do you have to know someone to get in? Obviously I can't wait forever to get admission.

Any suggestion are welcome. Also if you know any good pre-school in areas surrounding Rutherford, let me know.

We have our 2 year old in Rutherford Montessori, as do many others we know from town and various other nearby towns. It's definitely one of the best. You typically have to put your name on the waiting list at least a year in advance. We did this before we even moved into town. The reason for this is that there are only so many slots available. Getting in after only a 6 month wait is highly unlikely. A year is more typical.

They don't just cram in every kid that seeks enrollment. State law mandates a maximum number of kids per teacher. So once the school is full, you have to wait until spots open up. Kids don't move up to a new class yearly at this level. They move when their development has reached the level to join others similar in age group. That can happen at any time.

So you're waiting for a spot to open up in the classroom appropriate for your child - and there might be others on the wait list ahead of you. My advice is to regularly check in with the administrator Ms Diane. Regularly ask where you are on the list. You may have to place your child elsewhere temporarily while you wait. There's a Prime Time franchise in East Rutherford that's pretty highly regarded. Try them. I don't know what their enrollment situation is though.

I know someone from Rutherford that has kids in Peekaboo in Lyndhurst on Ridge RD, it's only 2 or 3 blocks over from Rutherford, and speaks very highly of how they teach kids, you can google them to see if it's what your looking for.
