Sayreville, South River, and South Amboy are all working class towns without many snobby yuppies.

Warren County or Sussex Co. would be my recommendation - what is your price range - house or townhouse / condo?

I am in the Army right now, but I ETS soon. I have already been approved for a VA loan. My price ranger is up to 160-175,000. Taxes are a concern. I am looking at the whole state of NJ. I plan to teach full time at the HS level. I would like to be able to commute to NYC, but that is not a priority. Well, let me know. Thanks.

That's a tight budget so I would definately start in Sussex or Warren Co. Warren Co. has access to trains and buses that will take you into NYC. Try Hackettstown, Mansfield, Allumuchy (tons of townhouses in your range).

Not sure where Penn Grove is..Elizabeth stinks - literally!, Long Branch and Asbury - nice shore towns. Try the gsmsl.com site - if you go into the property details, it should list what the current taxes are on the houses you like. Someone recently posted a great guide for figuring out what the cheapest tax areas are - I'll see if I can find it.
