Looking to buy a house in Bergen County, and need to commute to the city, (preferably by bus) but I have no idea how people in towns like Norwood, Closter and Creskill get into the city. Does everyone drive into NYC or do people just drive to the Edgewater ferry and get in that way?

I commute TO Bergen County from NYC by bus every day through the Lincoln tunnel. It works pretty good. It depends on where you are exactly, but you can get a bus card for like $100/mo, rides on my route are $3.20 each way otherwise. A lot of people use the ferries. Also PATH, but that isn't a very attractive option from Bergen. I wouldn't drive into Manhattan daily for, well, antyhing pretty much. Some people do it and rent a parking spot there. My cousin's employer splits the monthly cost for a spot with him. It is three hundred and something a month, I can't remember exactly, downtown.

It depends on where you're going in the city, but I'm from Cresskill, and although I don't work in NYC, most of the neighbors I see commuting get the bus, carpool, or as daaver said take the ferry or PATH.
