Hey folks, I have a Polish (as in off the boat) friend from NY who is moving to NJ in the near future for work and was looking for recommendations on places he'd fit in ethnically. I mentioned Linden, but was stuck on which specific areas of town are heavily Polish and told him I'd ask around. I see several Polish stores along Stiles while driving from 1/9 toward Cranford where I live, is that pretty much where the Polish neighborhood is centered around? Are there other towns in the Union County vicinity with a notable Polish population? If so, what neighborhoods would be best for him to look in? He doesn't have a family, so kids and schools aren't a consideration.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help out!

I always thought the Polish areas were in Bergen County like Garfield, Wallington.

I've always heard that there is/was a large Polish community in Linden, but I'm not very familiar with Linden. There is a big Polish meat market near the train station, but I'm not sure if that's the center of the Polish community there.

Also agree with NJ Brazen, there's a Polish community in the Wallington and Garfield area.

Linden 's Polish community is still here but smaller compared to the 90s. I think Clark is a much better town to live in.

Interesting! I am in Clark all the time and never noticed. Is there a major Polish community in Clark? If so, that might be ideal for my friend in terms of location/highway access.

I know there is a Polish Cultural Center on one of the main streets through Clark, when you drive through town.

There is a Polish enclave along Wood Avenue near the train station. I even saw billboards in Polish there. There is a Polish supermarket there, Polish meat markets, etc.

Try contacting St. Theresa church. They may be able to answer much of your concerns.

– St Theresa of the Child Jesus – Archdiocesan Shrine of St. John Paul II –

The parish is mostly Polish.
