Hi! I struck out with the Philadelphia and NY forums and thought some of the NJ commuters might be able to help. My mother is turning 70 at the end of April. She does not like to eat out, but loves her dessert. We do not go into either Philly or NY often, so we thought it would be nice to take the train in, take her to a dessert place and then maybe a horse and buggy ride. The Ritz Carlton in Phila has a chocolate buffet on the weekends however they are renovating and it will not be open next month. The one in NY only had it in February around Valentines Day. To be specific, we would like a place that specializes in desserts - not a candy store, a restaurant and not just some good desserts on a dinner menu. Somewhere to celebrate a special birthday. A place that really specializes in desserts. Does anyone know of any places like this? One person on the NY site mentioned something about a bald headed something or other that sounded pretty good. That was about all I got from them.
Max Brenner, Chocolate by the Bald Man! It's in Union Square. Great place that specializes in desserts. I've been dying to go myself. I have the biggest sweet tooth imaginable and I'm afraid I'll spend $500 on chocolate when I finally do go, LOL.
What about the ole famous Juniors - now (around 46th) and also in Brooklyn. They do the ole fashion choc cheesecake and have a bar...quite relaxed, but still special. Your mum will remember from ole..-)
The Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City renovated a couple of years ago, and built a section they call "The Quarter." In the Quarter is a dessert Resturant, called Brulee; The Dessert Experience. They didn't have a chocolate buffet when I was there, but they are spectacular. Here's a link to their website.
P.S. After posting, I followed my own Link & found out that they are only open for private events & parties now. Sorry.

Reason: Added P.S.
In NYC, Lower Manhattan, it has got to be Ferrara's!
Tiny, individual wedding cakes, and thirty feet of display case desserts.
Table service, and great espresso, and martinis.
