Can anyone tell me what the bus options are from Metuchen to NYC daily? NJ Transit trip planner has it clocked at almost 2 hours to get to NYC by bus.

Am i doing something wrong on thier website?

Why not take the train? NJ transit has a station right in town and it takes less than an hour to get to NYC.

because (unless i'm doing it wrong) NJ Transit to NYC-Penn Station is something like $267 per month, plus I would need another $80 monthly metrocard to get over to the east side.

there's two of us and it seems to be an absurd amount per month to get to work.

i figured maybe theres a bus thats much cheaper.

Well, there's a slightly cheaper way:

http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/R0070.pdf

You can take the Northeast Corridor Line to Newark Penn Station. From there, you can take the PATH to Lower Manhattan and then catch the Bronx-bound (4) or (5) trains up the East Side.

This will cost $54 per month for the PATH pass, and $193 for the NJT rail pass, so it'll be $247 per month rather than $308.

There is another way, but I think it'll take too long: You can buy a Metuchen-Elizabeth pass for $116, and it should be valid on one of the buses from Elizabeth to Newark at no extra charge, so you'll save money that way, but again, you'll be increasing you commute time.

That doesn't make sense. My friend lives in Monroe near exit 8 off Turnpike and he takes the bus to New York City. It takes an hour for him.

There are some buses along Route 9, but they are roughly the same price as the train.
