There is no cost to remove points. You need to go plead your case with the traffic court judge and it is at his/her discretion.

You probably would benefit from a traffic lawyer helping you. You will probably start getting mail from them any day now. If not, try to find one that works close to the court where you have to show up

Don’t waste money on a lawyer. Just go to court and you will plead your case with Prosecutor. Most cases will be reduced.

Agreed, it would be ridiculous to hire a lawyer for a minor traffic offense. Many years ago I got this same ticket, never bothered to go to court, and there was no effect on my insurance rates.

If he thinks he can argue the case himself, go for it, of course
I was assuming he didn’t know much about the process since he thought he could pay to have points removed

If you do want a lawyer, Ed Shamy in North Brunswick is good. I used him a few years ago. His fees plus the fee I had to pay to the court were still less than what I would have had to pay if my insurance was increased. He got the points removed and the other advantage is that the lawyers get to go first thing in the morning whereas everyone without a lawyer can sit there for hours waiting their turn. Good luck.

If you did not have any points currently they would probably just change it to a non moving violation, the flip side is you will probably spend 3-4 hours in court. If you have points on your license I am not sure.
