"the fact that EO only had a handful of murders last year (for 65,000 ppl) when it borders murder city, Newark, says a lot. Most of the issues have been around the Newark border"

I've seen you post this response in another thread. However, where are your sources from that indicate Newark is "murder city"?

East Orange has a population of approximately 65,000 (as you suggest in your post). Newark has a population of nearly 290,000. There were approximately 9 murders in East Orange last year, compared to 77 in Newark. Statistically, the odds are not THAT different. You can check: Moderator cut: link removed, competitor site

Does EO have lead in their pipes like Newark?

With those numbers, the odds ARE statistically quite different. You're almost twice as likely to be murdered in Newark than in East Orange. But to say another way, both cities have significantly less than 1/10 of 1% of a chance of someone being murdered, much closer to 1/100 of 100%. Those odds mean more likely than not you will survive, but still, the difference between the two is quite significant.

Of course, those rates, while telling the story that you as a random person probably won't get iced in either city, compared to the general U.S., are higher and thus obviously more dangerous. Newark's murder rate is 5.4 x's the national murder rate. EO's is 2.8 x's.

Also, how does one count "approximately 9" murders?

2018 Essex County Homicides:

Newark-79
East Orange-6
Caldwell-0
Bloomfield-1
Orange-5
Belleville-0
Montclair-3
W. Orange-1
Maplewood-1

https://www.rlsmedia.com/article/opr...Ns5dEbBt22laJ0

I wouldn’t say they’re not THAT different. Even though East Orange is 4x smaller, it would have to have 12.5x more homicides to even compare.

I don't know about you guys, but I definitely choose where to live by counting the number of murders per capita. After all, I don't want to be murdered, and obviously everyone within the same municipality has the same odds of being murdered, so this is the most logical way to determine where to live.

Murders in Montclair?

Must've either been Soccer Moms shootin it off over the last Caramel Macchiatto at Starbucks or somebody wearing the wrong Vineyard Vines pastel polo color on the wrong side of town. Nah, probably just a home bidding war that got too intense..had to take it out to the back of the poolhouse.

The streets have gotten real..

What about the area around the East Orange train station? I see online that the mayor of EO Ted Green is going around trying to clean up the streets (literally telling residents to clean the outsides of their houses), EO was given money to fix the streets, there are plans to create some sort of community farm or something. Have you, as a resident of East Orange noticed significant developments like that currently happening in Newark, albeit slow?

Stabbing on Hartley, which is part of Montclair's little bit of hood. Stabbing at Union Gardens, which is an "affordable housing" complex. And a shooting on North Mountain Avenue, probably a domestic dispute.
