1. East part of PA, like Lehigh value. Houses are very newly built at half NJ price and half tax.

2. Central FL. WEATHER , low tax and cost and cheap real estate.

Cannot think of other places worth moving to.

Plan to sell all real estate here this year when price is still high. May come back to buy during next recession.

Lehigh Valley... well, it is scenic, and they have Waffle House and casinos. And while Allentown and Bethlehem would get knocked out of the ring before the bell finished clanging in a “hood off” with say Irvington or Camden, the area doesn’t have any truly high-end towns either, does it? Nice to visit, wouldn’t want to live there.

And FL... yup, that great weather. Hurricanes, temperatures ranging from “blazing” in winter to “my skin just turned to dust” every other time, the center lane of I95 has a giant thunderstorm while the lanes on either side are dry and sunny... real estate is cheap because the houses are made of paper, there’s no jobs outside of the city centers, the schools are terrible, and there’s crime everywhere outside of Ponte Vedra in the North or Boca Raton in the South. OK, they have lots of Waffle Houses. So, again, OK to visit. Not a chance I’d want to live there.

But, to each his/her own.

An area doesn’t need to have “high end towns” to be a nice area. The people there are friendly and down to earth. Its that kind of condescending thinking that has ruined NJ in the first place and caused a mass exodus of the middle class elsewhere.

I'd look at Southern Delaware (Sussex County) if I wanted out of NJ, especially if you still have family in Jersey that you want to see frequently kids and grand kids.... low property taxes, no sales tax, beach. A lot of retirees from NY, NJ, PA , MD and VA have made that decision.

We escaped to southeast NC two years ago,and love it. Close to Wilmington; less than an hour to Myrtle.
Lower taxes, no toll roads, free beaches., great seafood.

We miss the Italian food, but not the snow.

We have neighbors that tried Florida and couldn’t hack the never ending heat so moved partway back north. They are called “half-backs”.

I know Wilmington. It is close to beach but in the middle of nowhere and has hurricanes.

I am not retiring and need to be 2 hours from big cities.

PA AND DE sounds good, close to nyc. FL is not bad with no income tax and diverse.

I moved to Myrtle Beach. The beach is free, people are friendly and not in so much of a damn hurry. Beautiful weather.

Miss the union jobs and the pay of up north, but the quality of life here in the south is amazing.

Other parts of Pa. Still accessible to Philly and Wilmington Delaware for job market if need be. Check out Chester County Pa. Talk about high end, talk about beauty and really the best of everything. Way lower taxes, but the home prices are not so low- depending on where in NJ you are leaving.

I don't care how hot it is in FL, you're never going to convince me that throwing away 15-20k per year in property taxes is worthwhile to stay in NJ.

Weird discussion. The reason why most people stay in the North East and in urban areas is not because they love to pay a lot of money for real estate and taxes. It is normally because of good job opportunities, schools and universities and cultural resources.

Now PA outside of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh could be very scenic and woody. But from what I know, it is essentially an opportunity waste land, with no major employers, mediocre schools and limited cultural attractions.

Florida is nice if you are by the ocean and close to the city. Although it is still too hot for my taste. Florida also has problems with flooding, horrible traffic, lack of public transportation. Nice place to go on vacation. Miami Beach is nice but I wish they would finally build light rail. It is impossible to find parking anywhere close to the South Beach and the bus system in inadequate...
